February 28, 2011: Crooks

Crooks behaves differently when Candy and Lennie was in their only but when Curley's wife came in everything changed in Crooks' mood. In the beginning when Lennie was not invited into his room,Crooks was yelling at him, telling Lennie that he has no rights to come inside a color man's room. When Lennie breaks Crook's protective mood, he invited Lennie to go in his room and not leave because he seems lonely since no one usually visit him.

Crooks emotions is plain and simple, he is always lonely since he is a coloured man, no one would talk or visit him. He was doubtful of the plan that Lennie, George, and Candy had, because he had seen so many guys like them aiming for the same goal, but never succeed. Most of the time Crooks is just lonely and he just wanted companionship.

The way Crooks wanted Lennie to stay with him shows that he doesn't want to be lonely anymore, so he invited Lennie into his room so they could talk. He felt superior or had confidence when he expressed his feelings to Candy and Lennie but when Curley's wife threatened and insulted him, he became scared and frightened.

I think there is no difference between inner thoughts and feelings and outward behaviours because it is the inner thoughts and feelings that controls the person's behaviours towards other people.

February 22, 2011: Dreams. Ambitions, & Hopes

It's a bit too early to say to have any dreams or ambitions for me right now. I don't think its too late to not have anything planned out for my life in the future. I will probably start thinking on what to do when i'm in grade 10 since thats when all things starts to get serious in school. I will just stick with school and not thinking about what to do my life until grade 10.

I guess my perfect life is too have everybody in the world to live in peace and not judge anybody in anyway that will break that happiness. I also want everybody in the world to live their life the fullest because it is important to enjoy life then to hate it and just end it early. That is my perfect life.

February 16, 2011- Character Foils: Slim

"He might of been thirty-five or fifty"

-This quote shows that Slim might have look old but his working ability is much like a younger person because he is such a good worker

"His tone was friendly. It invited confidence without demanding it"

-This quote shows that Slim is a good person to be around with because he can make people feel good around them and have confidence by using his words but not using violence.

"He was capable of killing a fly on the wheeler's butt with a bull whip without touching the mute"

-This quote shows that Slim is a hard worker of his job and that people uses him as a role model to be such skillful in their own profession

February 15, 2011: Curley's Wife

"Oh!" She put her hands behind her back and leaned against the door frame so that her body was thrown forward.

- The quote explains how Curley's wife was being a flirt to the two gentlemen; George and Lennie. She posed herself in a way that makes Lennie sort of like Curley's wife.

"If he ain't, I guess I better look someplace else," she said playfully

- It shows that Curley's wife didn't really care if Curley was there or not because she said it in like a jokey kind of way. It shows that Curley has no interest if Curley was their or not, and that she was just having fun joking around.

She smiled archly and twitched her body. "Nobody can't blame a person for looking," she said

- The quote tells that many men has looked at her in a flirty way and that she can't blame those that had for being beautiful. It shows that she is bragging about her looks in a way when she moves her body "she smiled archly and twitched her body"

February 10, 2011

I thought that this book would not have as many complications as it does and i thought that they would just be average men without such a big difference in between the two. But, personally, i enjoyed the first section of this book more then i thought i would. In the book, George and Lennie want to buy property in a large, open area where they are able to make a rabbit farm. They want to have enough money, for once, so they dont have to continuously travel around looking for jobs just to get food on the table or a roof over their head.

I think that their dream will not come true because Lennie seems to always be doing something wrong and messing up Georges perfect plans, so in this case, Lennie will probably do something to sabotage their dream of living together.

So far, I liked the plot but i dont like how everything is said so simply. I would prefer it if there was more detail and the author used more describing words. I have so many questions because of the minimal language. Such as:
What happens in the end?
How did the two of them meet?
Does Lenny have any disabilities?

Of Mice and Men Review

What I think will happen in the book is that the 2 men would be best friends and go to places together and stick together all the way. I guess they would go to Soledad and find a land to settle on to make a living.

Canada History 1937

The Great Depression was meant to have affected only the United States but Canada was affected very strongly and had to deal with the same decrease of employment and increase of poverty. It was so drastic, in face, that every 1 in 5 Canadians became dependant on the government for relief. To make matters worse, the crops in Saskatchewan (along with other provinces within Canada) failed drastically and within the span of 2 years the province's economy decreased by 90%.

Riots occurred and the countries government was in slight trouble due to the living conditions of many citizens that made their home in this place that was meant to be fertile.

Canada, was overall in bad shape, in the year of 1937. Although, many exciting new discoveries were being made worldwide such as Amelia Eirharts dissapearance, the country itself was dealing with a crisis almost as big as the well known one in the United States at this time.

Not only was there the Great Depression but in 1937 their was the Memorial Cup final for the 19th junior ice hockey championship of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. It was the George Richardson Memorial Trophy champions, Copper Cliff Redmen against the Abbott Cup champions, Winnipeg Monarchs. It was the first best-of-five format Memorial Cup series, and it was held at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario. At the end of the game it was the Winnipeg who won their 2nd Memorial Cup against Copper Cliff 3 games to 1.

Their was the economic problem, and the amazing junior ice hockey game, but in 1937 their was 1 more thing, The Padlock Law. The Padlock Law was an "Act of the province of Quebec, passed on March 24, 1937 by the Union Nationale government of Maurice Duplessis, that was intended to prevent the dissemination of communist propaganda." It was to prohibit people that were trying to propagate any media signs of communism and bolshevism.
